These resources are our favorites around here at the farmhouse. With a family of six, we stick to our budget and don’t enjoy over-consuming. These are the brands that have proven worth it in our farmhouse, homestead, and small knitting business. Check back often, because Iβm always adding more that I find helpful.
I earn a small commission on some items purchased and at no additional cost to you. Iβve used all of these resources personally and I think theyβll really help you, too!
gardening and homesteading
Our favorite seed companies on our homestead are from:
For all our needs collecting sap from our walnut trees, we’ve been very happy with Lehman’s supplies.
Getting baby chicks is always exciting at the farmhouse! We’ve been really impressed with the brand RentACoop for our brooder heater, water dispensers, and feed trays.
home
To set a cozy mood in autumn, winter, and even a rainy summer day, we love soy candles from the small business local to us, 1803 Candles.
knitting and yarn dyeing
All of the yarn dyeing here at the farmhouse is done with natural things we forage and grow on our property. But I’ve used regular wool yarn and Bare yarn from Knit Picks for years and am really happy with it.

homeschooling
We borrow so many books (like, 75 at a time!) from our library. But sometimes we read from a book all year long, and four children later, it makes sense to own it instead of pay fines on it! We just started using Thrift Books at the recommendation of our homeschooling friends.
When we’re not reading books, we’re listening to them on our screen-free Yoto mini. I don’t let the kids listen to the radio and it’s only on when I’m in the room/car so I know what stories my children are listening to. Every once in awhile we’ll listen to the Friday Funnies together for a treat!
