this vacation actually blew up my fall knitting project plans
Sometimes vacations blow your knitting plans out of the water!
Last week, I pared down my knitting WIPs to three projects. Three. Then a “smell the fall air, see the leaves start to change” vacation vibe up north threw a wrench in my minimal fall knitting project plans.
Here’s what I’m knitting:
- FINISHED: Silvery Pines Christmas Socks {This Yellow Farmhouse} hopefully one I’ll publish by November!
- ALSO OFF THE NEEDLES: Cozy Days Daisy Blanket from All About Ami
- Vintage Toys Stocking by Ursula Almeida
- Kids Christmas Socks, a children’s sock design I’m writing up but desperately need name ideas!
- Gaia Shawl by LeeLee Knits
- Riddari sweater by vedis jonsdottir

Silvery pines christmas socks
I knit these slouchy Christmas socks with West Yorkshire Spinners Signature Sparkly, in the color “Nutcracker Sparkle”. They turned out gorgeous! I goofed on the decreases after picking up the heel, so the foot is actually a few stitches wider than the leg. I wasn’t too worried about it because of their slouchy nature, and I wasn’t planning to wear them in shoes anyway. They ended up being so cozy that way!
cozy days daisy blanket
this was a lot of fun to crochet, less so to seam, and adhd got the best of me in waiting for these 42 granny squares to block. this is my favorite blanket I’ve ever made for myself, however I won’t be seaming together anything this large for a long while!
I mixed together Plymouth Homestead in “Blue Frost” with Berroco Vintage Chunky yellow, and Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted Bare. I’m planning to write more about it here.
vintage toys stocking
i’ve re-knit the large ribbon section twice, on account of not paying attention while car knitting. shame on me for trying to knit colorwork while on vacation. it turns out that I was making it to my halfway around marker (put in place for when I eventually get to the heel), and changing rows there. obviously nothing was lining up right because some rounds I didn’t actually complete before jumping to the next row in the chart. all is well now, and the stocking is on home arrest, only to be knit without distractions!
The yarn is Knit Picks Palette in “Aurora Heather”, “Pimento”, and “White”.
Kids Christmas Socks
I knit so many socks for myself, and I realized that I’ve never made them for my kids! Not since they were newborns anyway, and I barely even had a heel to knit at that size!
I’m using Cascade Yarn Heritage Prints in the color “150”, which is a crime and should be called “Christmas Cheer” or something equally festive.
Gaia shawl
How does one actually wear a right triangle shawl? Am I a shawl pin girl now? I’m not sure, but I really love the cable texture mixing with the Plymouth Homestead Tweed going on here!
Riddari sweater
Drives through bear country typically have me nose-to-window in search of something moving outside the car. Hence the need for another stockinette project! This sweater is going to have ribbed cuffs, hem, neckline, all the things, and only colorwork on the yoke. It’s also knit in size large, and I’m hoping to finish it as a Christmas gift, is that crazy?
I honestly haven’t looked at the colors I chose for the colorwork in a year, so all I remember is that the main color is Naturally Nazareth in “Wagon Wheel”. It’s also probably what I’ll be knitting for quite awhile before I see another color. I’m debating blocking this one while on the needles to get that curled edge out (or abandon ship if it doesn’t come out!).

“i should not be doing colorwork on vacation, that’s nuts.”
