Best Knitting Podcasts 2023
Knitting podcasts are like a virtual knit night with your best friend. They can be video podcasts, knitting vlogs or audio knitting podcasts. There are tons of podcasts out there, but today I’m sharing my very favorite ones, the best knitting podcasts.

What are knitting podcasts?
So, there’s a debate out there about what exactly are knitting podcasts. Some people say YouTube videos are a separate category from an audio podcast you find on Spotify or iTunes.
Technically, the definition of podcast is: “a program (as of music or talk) made available in digital format for automatic download over the Internet” (Merriam-webster.com).
So, a podcast could be considered audio that you can download, and YouTube is more visual streaming.
But for today, I’m going to cover the best of both video podcasts from YouTube/vlogs and audio podcasts. First, I’ll categorize them as video vs audio, then I give you…the “Best of Knitting Podcasts Awards 2023”!
What makes the best knitting podcasts?
We all have different tastes, but for me the best knitting podcasts are full of project and yarn inspiration, humor and a fun personality, and good bonus content that accompanies a knitter’s other interests.
Video knitting podcasts
Since these are completely visual, the best knitting podcasts on YouTube need good lighting and sound.
I also appreciate a good fairy light or cat in the background, or a pretty view of woods or mountains.
Once you have the setting and sound set up, you have to connect with the knitter and their knitting style.
I’ve hosted a video knitting podcast before. Creators can see in their YouTube analytics how long someone sticks around, whether they’ve found a good match or feel like something’s off. It’s totally normal to love only one element: a knitter’s personality but maybe they mainly knit sweaters while you knit socks, or vice versa.
The best knitting podcast relationships are when you like the person and like the content.
If you connect with one element and not the other, don’t automatically write them off! You might discover later on that the right person you really like develops a love of sock knitting, or the awkward podcaster (ehem, all of us!) with the perfect yarn hauls gets more comfortable in her skin on camera a few months in.
Another fun thing I like in podcasts is variety. I realized that although I might like a knitter and her style, if all I’m watching is an hour of her in front of a plant I get bored easily. Again, guilty of filming my podcasts this way. Which is why I started adding in segments, trips to Trader Joe’s, anything.
I really like when I’m watching knitting that’s broken up with breaks to show me their garden or a walk through town. It really feels more like a show, or as if I went on a virtual knitting retreat to see their knitting projects and a new place.
Audio knitting podcasts
So what if you’re listening to a podcast? What makes the best knitting podcasts that make me stick my ear buds in and binge while I wash dishes or weed the garden?
Again, great audio is super important.
There are no visuals here, so sound quality, theme song, etc. is important to me.
If there are multiple hosts or guests, the editing doesn’t have to be professional, but good enough for me to listen at a consistent volume without peeing my pants from a super loud sound effect I wasn’t expecting while I’m out on a run!
One more thing that’s important to me personally: I don’t like to watch or listen to knitting podcasts that are full of swearing. Most times I’m listening with headphones, but occasionally its on the TV during my girls’ quiet time and I don’t want them overhearing it. Plus, I don’t swear and too much of it actually turns me off. Call me old school or conservative (both are true) but I just want it to be a good clean show!

Best Knitting Podcasts Awards 2023
And now it’s time to award the very best knitting podcasts! I gathered all the things that make up a good knitting podcast to me, the things that I enjoy watching or listening to (and strive to have in the Farmhouse Knitting Podcast- don’t worry, I’m not awarding myself here!)
- Funniest knitting podcast: Shinybees (audio)
- Most entertaining knitting podcast: Pardon My Stash (audio)
- Most hygge knitting podcast: Fiber Tales (video)
- Most helpful knitting podcast: I’ll Knit if I Want to (video)
- Best knits in a knitting podcast: Knitting Traditions (video)
- Best scenery in a knitting podcast: Heather and Hops (video)
So here’s the thing: I like a lot of podcasts! Do I catch every episode or the entire episode? No!
But the cool thing is that podcasters put out a lot of episodes and they’re evergreen: they don’t disappear!
So if I lose my knitting mojo one autumn, like when I was pregnant, I can pick up a few months later or even the next fall for some project ideas, yarn I like and what others made with it, and pretty, pretty autumn inspiration all around!
What about you? What makes a great knitting podcast- both video and audio? Did I miss any?
