A cozy leap year

We’re walking through 2024 looking for all the cozy things that each month brings, and today we’re looking at a cozy February. I like to emphasize things that aren’t bought from a store as much as I can. Things to create, see, do, and feel are slow and simple ways of being joyful with what’s already in our lives.

You can read what was giving me a case of the cozies in January here.

My prayer is that this year long walk through of coziness shows us what’s already in our lives to be content with.

I also want to have a collection that you can come back to each year, each month when you find yourself needing a little extra coziness.

Cozy February favorite things

1. A tea time tray

I’ve had this white two-tiered tray that I’ve used for a hot chocolate stand. But I’ve grown to love the space it takes up on our counter, all cozy and inviting a small break in our day to sit down with a cup of cozy.

Then I thought of tea, specifically the afternoon tea time I’ve been having with my kids. And I knew that the tray must stay!

You don’t have to have a tiered tray (please don’t just go out and buy one!). Use what you already have, whether that’s a tiered tray or a small cake stand, or even just a wooden tray or cutting board to set the space apart.

I decided to pretend in this corner of the kitchen that we’re on the brink of spring. I took down all of our Valentine’s and winter decor, and daffodils will be popping up anytime now. So out came the fairies and baby’s breathe!

This not only makes our kitchen have a special and cozy nook, but it’s a visual reminder to make time for tea with each other everyday.

2. Out and about walking

I stumbled on this incredibly cozy YouTube channel that takes you out walking in the Cotswolds.

You can go along through tiny villages listening to birds in the morning, or past gorgeous and humble gardens. I’m not big into screen time, but this is so cozy and lifts my spirits every time I watch an episode. Plus, there is no editing and it doesn’t feel super produced. It’s as if you’re literally just walking along these stones and down the grassy pathways past sheep in real life.

It reminds me of woolgathering, just walking dreamily through the country. There are even episodes with fields of sheep and you can actually see all the wool tufts dotting the landscape, just waiting to be lazily gathered!

3. Beatrix Potter color palette

I love making seasonal color palettes. It all started by making a mood board on my computer, but it’s slowly morphed into creating a basket of yarn for my spring knitting projects, all surrounding a color palette.

This spring, my color inspiration comes from the imagination of Beatrix Potter. Soft purples with speckles that remind me of cobblestone streets through the Cotswolds are making me feel so creative!

Find a color palette that speaks to your springtime creativity, fill a basket of supplies for your hobby, and you’ll be inspired to joyfully make something new everyday this spring!
