Summer baby knits can be cozy + unique.
Ahhh summertime. The pace slows down and you can finally work on all the knits you started back in January (or start 3 new ones!). But what if you or someone you know is having a baby and you want to step up your summer baby knits game?
New moms never run short on warm blankets and hats. And while these are always extremely useful and appreciated, summer babies have a whole different set of knitting needs.
Summer hat
Chances are pretty good that at some point this summer, mom and baby will go out on a chilly morning walk. To keep warm, use soft alpaca or silk blend, which is also super soft for a summertime baby.
Newborn photo prop
Think small, fuzzy, blankets perfect for posing a curled up newborn in a basket. While new moms receive tons of baby blankets for the floor or the car, they probably won’t get many special tiny photo prop blankets or sleep sacks. When she outgrows a little blanket, I promise it’ll get plenty of use from dolls and stuffed animals!
Burp cloths + dish cloths
Here’s the newborn math I’ve learned after three babies: no matter how many burp cloths or wash cloths you have, you’ll never find one when you really need it. Trust me.
Nursery decor
This one’s easy if you’re the expecting mom. But if you’re giving a gift, make sure you find out the mom’s style, theme, or colors. There are some really cool wall hanging and pom pom wreath tutorials on Pinterest.
Blanket for mom
First of all, moms are superheroes and deserve all the soft blankets their hearts desire after giving birth! But really, there’s nothing better than snuggling under a cozy throw during a middle of the night feeding. Especially when night sweats come knocking those first few weeks!
By substituting a lighter weight yarn or rethinking a classic, like a blanket, to be used as a photo prop, most things you’re already knitting can be turned into summer baby gifts. Summer heat still got you stumped? Check out my summer knitting post here!
