A case of the cozies
Today we’re kicking off a year-long collection of cozy things each month! You can watch the video that goes along with this post, or keep scrolling to read more.
My hope is that sharing these ideas gives you encouragement and ideas of things you can bring into your life to feel cozier.
This simple list is a mix of store bought and from scratch cozy things that I want to pass along.
I hope that they bring you some calm and peace in your life and in your home. It’s also my goal that through A Year of Cozy, you can follow along month-by-month for cozy inspiration. But I also want to have a collection that you can come back to each year, each month when you find yourself needing a little extra coziness.
January cozy things
I hope that you’re still looking ahead at 2022 with lots of big dreams and possibilities!
For me, I already fell off some goals that I had set a few weeks ago, but am doing better than ever in others.
So, I really wanted to share four cozy things that have really helped me with January and new year overwhelm that you might also be feeling.
I don’t want you to feel like the start of a new year isn’t what you set out for it to be.
Calm is possible, coziness is possible, and it’s just ahead for you here!
Planner accessories
Maybe you stated the year with a goal to become a better planner, or to save for something special. For me, one of my big goals for 2022 is to eat out less.
It’s important to me that we eat a little healthier, eat at home, and save money along the way.
This is something that I always struggle with when I’m pregnant and when I have a newborn at home. Pregnancy cravings for onion rings are hard to say no to, especially when you’re too tired to cook. And life with a newborn means that anytime someone can cook for me, I’d take it.
We spent a lot of time at the drive thru in 2021, bringing home baby #4.
I needed to get into my planner consistently where I was using a habit tracker to write down the days we ate at home.
Isn’t it so easy to fill out a planner and then forget it in your desk drawer?
I needed accountability, and for me the trick was making my planner pretty. Taking time on Sunday nights to use seasonal homebody stickers and get creative is what’s been getting me in my planner everyday and every week.
It’s so satisfying to fill in the daily bubbles for eating at home. It’s also fun to decorate and look at out week long!
2. Blue spruce candle
Something that I’ve been using a ton ever since Christmas is my blue spruce candle.
Ever since taking down our tree, it feels different in our home.
The space looks different because of moving the tree out, but it also smells different.
And I missed the smell of the tree and all the cozy things that it represented.
If you’re also missing a little bit of the holiday coziness, consider getting a candle that smells like spruce, or any kind of pine tree to recreate the smell.
3. Cozy winter book
Cozy reading in winter can change your entire mood and mindset surrounding winter.
You might do better with a book about a tropical getaway.
But for me, I needed something that related to the season I’m in. So my girls and I started reading “The Long Winter” by Laura Ingalls Wilder. We all love it!
It’s gotten us into the right mindset about being grateful for what we have in this season.
I’ve gotten a better perspective on how to enjoy winter and actually get out of the house.
We have it so much easier in 2022 than Laura did so long ago.
This book is even about a supply train that doesn’t arrive, which, can’t we all relate to that in 2022?
4. Cozy indoor hobby
For me, knitting is something that is seasonal and cozy. Even if it’s just a dish cloth or socks, having warm fiber between your fingers brings a calm coziness on a cold winter evening.
It really warms you up!
I’m working on a sweater for my daughter in this perfect winter icy blue. The color is perfect, and a warm wooly sweater keeps my lap nice and cozy.
If you embroider, use forest green thread for a cozy winter scene.
Or if you’re a painter, you can choose a winter color palette.
There are so many possibilities for cozy things to do indoors!
Save these cozy things
I hope that this list gives you some ideas and inspiration of things you can do or use to feel cozy in January.
You can use these ideas going into February to give you comfort and calm, or revisit them next January when you find yourself in the slump late in the month.
