Classic Summer Socks: Wildflower Shortie Socks
The Wildflower Shortie Socks are classic short sock to knit this summer. With this knitting pattern, add to your warm weather knitting queue and create a timeless wardrobe!
Skill level and materials for the Wildflower Shortie Socks
The Wildflower Shortie Socks knitting pattern is an Easy level knitting pattern and the techniques involved are knit/purl ribbing and simple sock shaping. The toes are finished with the kitchener stitch, and the heel is worked with a heel flap and gusset. I chose to knit with 9″ circulars and switch to DPN’s for the heel and toe. You can use another method you find most comfortable.
To knit the socks, you will need approximately 400 yards total of fingering weight yarn. Sample knit in Yarn Bee Authentic Hand-Dyed by Hobby Lobby in the color “Blue Vapor”. The pattern uses US 1 (2.25mm) circular needles and double-pointed needles. However, you can knit with a different sock yarn, as long as the gauge matches. I recommend knitting socks with 100% wool or a wool/nylon blend to keep structure and durability to your finished socks. To make your socks taller or shorter, you can add or decrease the number of rows on your leg.
